What to Prepare for a Garage Door Site Survey
A useful garage door quotation starts with the opening, available space and intended use. This checklist helps you prepare initial information for IGTS; final dimensions and system suitability must be confirmed during a site assessment.
Identify the work required
Tell us whether you need a complete new sectional door, replacement panels or hardware, a motor retrofit, or help with a fault. A working door that needs a new operator is a different project from a new door and track installation.
Measure the opening and available space
If you can do so safely, share approximate clear opening width and height. Include photos showing the space above the opening, both sides and the ceiling depth behind it. Note beams, pipes, lights or storage that may obstruct the tracks or operator rail. These initial figures are for discussion, not fabrication dimensions.
Photograph the door, opening and operator
Take a wide view from inside and outside. For an existing installation, include the motor label, controls and visible track layout. Avoid including house numbers, people or other private details unnecessarily. Do not remove covers or approach moving components to obtain a photo.
Describe how the door will be used
State whether the site is a villa, residential garage, workshop or commercial property. Approximate opening frequency, vehicle clearance and exposure help the team discuss suitable door and operator options. Panel construction, seals and insulation should be assessed against the actual application.
Explain the symptoms for repair enquiries
Describe what happens when you operate the door: no movement, unexpected reversal, noise, remote failure or an intermittent fault. Share the model if visible and say whether there was a recent power issue or impact. Stop using a door with damaged cables, a visibly displaced track or unsafe movement. Springs and cables require trained technicians.
Confirm what the quotation includes
Ask the team to identify the door or motor scope, necessary hardware, safety devices, installation work, removal or making good, and any exclusions. Compatibility, availability and final scope should be confirmed before ordering.
